Palma makes moves on Madrid

Palma, Majorca is becoming increasingly popular with Brits jetting off on city breaks, new figures have shown. The city, regarded as being at the heart of the Balearic Islands, has seen twice as many travellers heading there in January 2007 compared to 2006, according to the figures. This has put it hot on the heels of Barcelona and Madrid as a popular destination with Brits and could soon see it become even more popular than its more glamorous rivals. John Bevan, from the online travel agent who compiled the figures, said: "Barcelona and Madrid have been staples of the UK city break market for years but now Palma is hot on their heels as sales have more than doubled compared to this time last year."Palma's wide selection of hotels, restaurants and entertainment is one reason why it is becoming increasingly popular with British holidaymakers, travel experts claim.
